When is Legal Parking the right choice?
Choose Legal Parking if you want parking payments together with Copenhagen zone guidance, free time-limited areas, AI explanations of parking signs, expiry reminders and a manually saved car location. It supports MobilePay and municipal payments in Copenhagen, Aalborg, Roskilde and Aarhus. It is not the cheapest choice by service fee: OK currently advertises no fee. We develop Legal Parking; this is our own assessment of who the app suits.
Update, 24 October 2026: As of 24 October 2026, OK advertises parking without a service fee. Legal Parking charges 15%, minimum 4 kr per payment, and supports MobilePay. Eligible free registration costs 0 kr. Other fee examples below were checked in July 2026; always check the current price in the app. Copenhagen now also lists FreeSpot; its fee is not verified here.
First, the disclosure that most comparison pages bury: we make one of these apps. Legal Parking is the one of the entries on the City of Copenhagen's official list of approved parking apps. So instead of asking you to trust our opinion, this page gives you published fee examples with a link to the primary source, checked on 29 July 2026. Where a competitor is cheaper than us, the table says so.
Some background so the table makes sense: Copenhagen's parking is enforced digitally, by license plate, through the city's Parking Rights Service (PRS). Every approved app registers your plate in that same system, and the municipal tariff — say, 45 kr/hour daytime in a Red zone — is identical no matter which app you use. The city itself puts it plainly: fees may differ between app providers. That fee, and the features around the payment, are the entire competition.
The official list, and what each app charges
The City of Copenhagen's list of approved parking apps (kk.dk) names exactly eight providers. The table includes all eight; OK was rechecked on 24 October 2026, other competitor fee examples are from July 2026, and FreeSpot pricing is not verified here.
| App | Service fee (pay-per-use) | MobilePay | Fee source |
|---|---|---|---|
| APCOA FLOW | 10% of parking price, min. 4.50 kr | Not stated | apcoa.dk |
| EasyPark | 15%, min. 4 kr, capped at 79 kr (or "Go" subscription instead) | Yes | easypark.com |
| FreeSpot | Not verified | — | freespot.dk |
| Legal Parking (that's us) | 15%, min. 4 kr on paid parking · free parking registered at 0 kr, no fee · unused time refunded automatically | Yes | our pricing |
| OK-appen | 0 kr — no service fee | Yes | ok.dk |
| ParkMan | 10% + 5 kr per session | No (cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay) | parkman.io |
| ParkOne | 10%, min. 4 kr | Yes | parkone.dk |
| PARKPARK | Prepaid "Tank Op": 1.60 kr per started hour · pay-as-you-go: 15%, min. 4 kr · "ParkFri" 39 kr/month: no fee | Yes | parkpark.dk |
Worth knowing if you've read older comparisons: APCOA FLOW's often-quoted flat fee of 3.50 kr per session is outdated — its own site now states 10% with a 4.50 kr minimum. And PARKPARK's famous low price is per started hour on a prepaid balance, not a flat "1 kr per parking".
What that means in kroner: one daytime hour in a Red zone (45 kr)
| App | Fee | Total |
|---|---|---|
| PARKPARK (Tank Op, prepaid) | 1.60 kr | 46.60 kr |
| ParkOne | 4.50 kr | 49.50 kr |
| APCOA FLOW | 4.50 kr | 49.50 kr |
| Legal Parking | 6.75 kr | 51.75 kr |
| EasyPark | 6.75 kr | 51.75 kr |
| OK-appen | 0 kr | 45 kr |
| ParkMan | 9.50 kr | 54.50 kr |
If the fee were the whole story, this article would end here. It isn't — because the expensive part of parking in Copenhagen isn't the fee. It's the fine.
So which app should you actually pick?
Honest guidance, scenario by scenario:
- You drive across Europe or park in many cities: EasyPark has the widest coverage claim of the eight (20+ countries), at the price of a 15% fee — or its subscription.
- You mostly park in garages and P-huse: APCOA FLOW — APCOA says it operates 2,500+ parking areas in Denmark, and the app covers its own facilities plus on-street zones.
- You want the app that treats the parking itself — not just the payment — as the product: that's the case we make for Legal Parking below. Judge for yourself.
The case for Legal Parking (from the people who make it)
Our fee on paid sessions is 15% with a 4 kr minimum — the same percentage as EasyPark, and higher than ParkOne, APCOA FLOW, and PARKPARK's prepaid rate. We'd rather tell you that in our own comparison table than have you find out elsewhere. Here's what that fee buys, and why we think it's the strongest value on the list for parking in Copenhagen:
- Free parking is genuinely free — and first-class. Free zones, 3-hour zones, and the city's free-hour windows are mapped like paid zones, and registering a free park costs 0 kr with no service fee. Free-area guidance is useful even when you do not buy a parking session.
- You get unused time back, automatically. Stop early and eligible unused parking fees are refunded automatically. No refund is made when less than 5 minutes remain or the refund would be under 5 kr; the service fee is retained.
- You can read any sign before you commit. Photograph a parking sign and the AI explains, in plain language and in your language, whether you can park there right now — grounded in Copenhagen's regulations. Confusing signage is one of the most common frustrations for drivers in Copenhagen; this is our answer to it.
- You'll find the car again. Offline Find My Car works in underground garages with no signal, and manually saved pins never leave your phone.
- You can scout before you drive. Destination search shows garages ranked by distance plus every on-street zone — paid and free — around any address.
- No account needed to start. Browse the full map, check prices, and read signs before ever registering a vehicle or a card. A multilingual interface helps visitors.
And the honest limitations, so this page stays trustworthy: this comparison focuses on Copenhagen; check our current payment coverage before parking elsewhere (see the Frederiksberg note below), and if your only criterion is the cheapest possible paid session, OK currently beats us on service fee alone.
A note on Frederiksberg
Frederiksberg is its own municipality with its own official list of parking payment providers, which currently names six: APCOA FLOW, EasyPark, OK, ParkMan, PARKPARK, and ParkOne (frederiksberg.dk). Legal Parking is not on Frederiksberg's list at the moment. If you regularly park on Frederiksberg streets and want one app for both municipalities, pick from that list — several are in our table above.
The rule every app user should know: register even free parking
Since 1 April 2025, the first hour of your first registered parking is free from Saturday 17:00 to Monday 08:00, and on public holidays plus 5 June and 24 December. But the free hour only exists if the parking is registered — via an app, a machine, or by phone — even for a 20-minute stop. Enforcement is digital and plate-based; an unregistered "free" park risks a fine. Source: kk.dk (effective date per FDM).
