MergeKit

For Google Sheets™

Document merge for
Google Sheets™.

MergeKit is a document merge add-on that turns ready spreadsheet rows into personalized Google Docs™ documents and PDFs. Keep your own template, choose where the files go, and see every result in your sheet.

Install from Google Workspace Marketplace Read the setup guide

Available now for desktop Google Sheets. Start with 25 free merges per Google Account per UTC calendar month. Your organization may require administrator approval.

01 / Choose

Start with your template

Select a native Google Doc and a writable Google Drive™ folder with the file picker. Add simple tags such as <<Name>> that match your column headers.

02 / Merge

Run the ready rows

Choose a readiness value, filename pattern and output type. MergeKit fills a new document for each ready row and can export a PDF using Google's rendering.

03 / Follow through

Keep the results in view

Open each file from its sheet link. See errors per row and retry failed work using saved recovery information. Successful rows are skipped on later runs.

Choose a plan for your document work

Prices are in US dollars. All plans include manual merges, PDF output and optional Form response automation. Paid plans have no MergeKit monthly merge cap; Google service quotas, execution limits and the product's technical limits still apply.

Pro

A new merge is counted when a row is authorized for generation, before any file is created. Doc and PDF together count as one merge. An admitted job still counts if generation fails. Retrying that same already-authorized saved job does not count again, including after a month changes or paid access ends. A deliberately reset job needs a new allowance.

An unfinished job from before billing was introduced, including version 2, uses one allowance on its first billing-authorized attempt if it has no earlier billing grant. Completed rows are still skipped. Allowance is shared across your spreadsheets and Form triggers. Free resets at 00:00 UTC on the first day of each month; unused allowance does not roll over.

All newly admitted jobs count toward monthly usage, including those run on a paid plan. Paid plans have no monthly cap. If paid access ends, the remaining Free allowance for that month is 25 minus all those starts, with a minimum of zero.

Paid plans renew automatically each year. Cancel through the Stripe billing portal to stop the next renewal; otherwise eligible paid access continues through the current paid period. A processed refund or payment-risk issue can suspend paid access sooner. To change between paid plans, cancel the existing subscription and wait for it to end before purchasing another. Switching paid plans during an active subscription is not supported.

Prices are in USD. Applicable tax, if any, is handled by Innova Apps through its existing process outside Stripe. Stripe Checkout does not automatically calculate tax. Contact support for tax or invoice questions before purchasing.

Connect a Form response workflow

Optionally enable a trigger on the spreadsheet linked to your Google Forms™ form. When a response arrives on the configured tab, MergeKit can create its documents under the account that enabled the trigger. Turn it off from the same sidebar whenever you need to.

Understand where your data goes

The add-on runs on Google's Apps Script, Docs and Drive services. You choose the template and output folder. Recovery information, including row values and template text, is saved in spreadsheet cells visible to editors. Created files follow the output folder's access rules. MergeKit does not send merge-result email. Account identity and allowance records are processed by our billing service; raw spreadsheet values and document or template content are not sent to it.

Built for a clear, practical workflow

Use desktop Google Sheets in a web browser. Templates support exact text tags, without loops, expressions, image tags or imported jobs from another add-on. Your Google account's quotas and administrator policies apply. Avoid editing or sorting the sheet during a run, and review generated documents before using them.

PDF-only mode keeps a merged Google Doc for recovery. Interrupted work may need manual review before retrying; see the recovery guide.

Questions about document merge in Google Sheets

How do I create certificates or letters from spreadsheet rows?

Use one row per recipient and a native Google Docs template with tags such as <<Name>> and <<Course>> matching your column headers. MergeKit creates a separate document, PDF, or both for each ready row and writes the output links back to the sheet.

Can a Google Form response generate a document?

Yes. Enable the optional Form response trigger on the linked response spreadsheet. New responses use the configured template and the trigger owner's account and plan, even when the sidebar is closed. You can disable the trigger from MergeKit.

Is MergeKit free?

The Free plan includes 25 newly admitted merges per Google Account per UTC calendar month. Teacher is USD 29 per year, Pro is USD 79 per year and Domain is USD 299 per year. Paid plans remove MergeKit's monthly cap; Google service quotas and product limits still apply. See all plan details and billing conditions.

Does MergeKit email the generated PDFs?

No. MergeKit saves output files to your chosen Google Drive folder and links them in your spreadsheet. It does not send email or automatically change file-sharing permissions.

Can I use it on a phone or tablet?

Set up and run MergeKit in desktop Google Sheets in a web browser. Native mobile Sheets is not a supported setup surface.
